Jet Boat enthusiasts protecting our rights and having fun along the way

The IJBA Heads for the South Fork of the Snake!

May 13-14th

We are working with the Bureau of Land Management and with the US Forest Service to organize a service project along the river corridor. Randy Griffeth, the Natural Resource Specialist for the Targhee National Forest is working to determine where they might use up to 15 people and jet boats for service along the river. They have several tasks in the Forest Service camps where he thinks they might use us.

Monica Zimmerman of the BLM is also interested in using up to 15 people and jet boats for some of the BLM projects. As communication continues I will keep the board informed.

For those that arrive on Friday May 13, some will travel up river and camp in one or more of the designated campsites. I would like to leave the ramp by 4:00 pm.  There is a BLM campsite called Kelly Island camp on the north side of the river across from the Byington boat ramp for those interested in bringing campers or motor homes.

Currently we will plan to meet at the Byington boat ramp Saturday May 14 at 9:00 am. Plans for the service projects will be discussed and assignments given for work to be completed. We anticipate our work to be done by noon and then a group 40 mile run to Palisade Dam is anticipated.

Bruce Ludington (Dam Man) has agreed to host a tour of the grounds and power generation facility at Palisade Dam. Travel down river to the launch site will be as a group or on your own, as desired. Some people will camp on the river Saturday night while others may opt to drive home that night.

Informal group runs will be had on May 15 for anyone present.

This is a swift water, but flat water experience through a beautiful canyon. The water managers indicate that projected flows will be at 10,000 cfs or higher. If there is a significant spring run off we could anticipate flows up to 20,000 cfs. The high water flow means there may be debris in the river. We should have a fun time and we will see and significant amount wildlife and birds.

It should be a fun time and perhaps we will even get some press out of this event
